This limits their raw power since spending leveling points on casting takes the place of direct upgrades. Instead of using empire research to access their class abilities and to increase their casting points, heroes have these as options on their list of per-level upgrades ( experience requirements for each level). Heroes level up and use equipment as your leader does. Each player can cast only one spell per combat round no matter how many heroes they have. Unlike leaders they cannot retreat to the void to escape death, they must be present at a battle to cast spells, and they can only cast combat spells. Heroes function much like Leaders and can become similarly powerful. Now you can just leave the game and go start a new character in origins without having to worry about unlocking specs throughout the game.Your Leader is not alone in the quest to expand your empire, as you will also be approached every now and then by other people of skill and power. Go in the bar and buy/use the spec tomes there.Īfter all of that is done you should have all specs unlocked permanently by playing through early Awakening just once. Find the outdoor merchants and buy/use their spec tomes. Next leave the area for the world map and go to the town just north. Leave the keep and check the outdoor merchants, buy spec tomes if any and use them. Buy the specialization tomes off them and use them. Drop the difficulty if the combat is giving you problems. Play through up until you're in the keep and get access to the merchants. The item selling double gold exploit/bug works well for this also.
Note: You'll probably have to sell off the more expensive dlc items or promo items (if installed) you start with to afford to buy the tomes. You can start up an Awakening game with a newly created character before touching Origins.Ī large number of the specs become unlocked as you start the campaign / gain party members. This is just something you may or may not want to do.
